First, let us focus on the type of food that you should eat to make sure that you are eating healthy, and nurturing your body.  Your voice will feel effortless when you feed your body with the right foods, but wrong foods will cause it to fade out.

Fresh Food

This includes leafy green vegetables and scrumptious fruits, which are jam-packed with all the essential nutrients. Fresh food is better than processed or packaged foods and contains copious amounts of energy that singers desperately need. Some fruits and vegetables that you should consider eating are:

  1. Wheatgrass
  2. Kale
  3. Raw Spinach
  4. Broccoli

Fresh food ingredients on the table – that will improve your singing!

Food with high water content

Food that has high-water content hydrates your body and provides you with that dose of extra nutrition that you require.  Fruits and vegetables like celery and Bok Choy are rich in water and are great for improving nerve conduction, too. Melons of whatever kind are super hydrating for your voice. Most vegetables and fruits contain Vitamin A which helps in the normal regeneration of cells, Vitamin C which helps prevent sore throats and the common cold and also improve the immune function of the body and vitamin E which is a powerful antioxidant.  These vitamins help clear an irritation of your throat as you sing by keeping the mucous membrane in the throats healthy.

Carbs are an important source of energy, but take care only to consume them the night before a performance. This will help boost your energy levels. Sweet Potatoes are rich in carbohydrates, which eventually turn into sugar, and are a much better than rice or pasta.

These are eaten as a main dish and for lubrication add a little lemon or lime and olive oil and top up with avocado.

It contains an anti-microbial property which means that it is difficult for bacteria to survive and reproduce in honey.  Honey is used as a remedy for a sore throat by singers and also as a great food for protecting the fragile vocal cords.  Honey also cures cough symptoms which may affect your singing.

This is very important as it helps cleanse the body of toxins that are in the cells and tissues and keep the body hydrated. Water also keeps the vocals moist because when you are singing the vocal cords vibrate at an extremely fast speed hence drying up hence becoming prone to irritation, discomfort, and pain while singing. take a glass of warm water before you sing and have another glass beside you while singing and this will help soothe your vocal cords and also moisten the muscles and tissues involved hence reducing the risk of vocal damage.

Now, let us consider some workout routines that you can undertake to improve your voice.

Drinking water is a great way to start your weight loss

One of the best exercises for singers is endurance swimming as it strengthens your rib muscles, heart, and lungs, and stretches your throat. If you indulge in this for 30 minutes before your performance or daily, then it gets you pumped up. In addition to this, it will help calm your nerves and increase your breath capacity. However, make sure to avoid getting your throats, nose or eyes infected while swimming.

Martial Arts and Yoga

These will you deal with stage fright or anxiety associated with performing. Apart from this, they aid in tuning your focus, providing greater breath control, and energy. Yoga primarily helps to develop your core, which provides you with strength; with the help of meditation, you can attain mental clarity and peace of mind, both of which are very important. Tai Chi, a form of Chinese martial arts, helps to center your energy. Other forms of martial arts that help you become a better singer include Karate, Tai Kwon Do, and Aikido.

Exercising vigorously for 30 minutes on performing day

You can choose any activity that you enjoy and indulge in it for 30 minutes before you are due to perform. It should get you pumped up and full of adrenaline, but remember to keep it simple and by your climate and geography. Doing aerobic exercises is good for a singer as it helps the lung capacity and helps control the exhaled breath pressure against the larynx. You should also do vocal warm up exercises regularly so as to improve the quality of your singing.  Remember to rest your voice after some time of exercising so as to strengthen your singing stamina and avoid it from becoming rough.

Manage your breathing

Singers have to master how to manage their breathing so that they can sing properly.  Breathing for speaking and breathing for singing is very different and it involves the use of the diaphragm.  The technique of breathing for a singer involves learning how to breathe from the diaphragm and not from the chest.  You should learn how to breathe and control the diaphragm as you sing so as to reach the desired levels of success.   It is not an easy exercise, but the importance of involving the diaphragm muscles as you sign cannot be underestimated.

Vocal exercises

This is important and there several drills and scales for vocal training and they help one to know the vocal range and warm up before the actual singing. Some of the exercises are lip buzz, solfege, the siren and these help strength your vocals when you reach a high or low vocal range and you should not be straining as you hit either the low or high notes.
